Pain Management

Nearly one-half of all patients who seek treatment from a physician report pain as their primary symptom. This makes pain the #1 cause of doctor visits in the U.S.  Chronic Pain affects nearly 100 million people in the U.S, which means there are more Americans suffering from pain than diabetes, heart disease, and cancer combined.

There are literally hundreds if not thousands of factors and conditions that can cause pain.  Everyone experiences pain differently, and everyone copes with pain differently.  The majority of people suffering from pain are usually prescribed some type of oral pain medication.  Some of these drugs can have bad side effects such as GI Upset, Constipation, Drowsiness, Nauseousness, Dizziness, and Blurred Vision.  Also, some of these meds have a high risk of addiction and therefore overdose.

Compounding allows pharmacies to create custom pain formulations that are better suited for each individual’s need. Also, compounding makes it possible for us to put some of the drugs you may take orally into a cream or gel so that they can be applied topically. Studies have shown that topical application of drugs greatly reduce the side effects associated with taking that drug orally.

If you think a topical compounded formulation may be an alternative or adjunct treatment for your condition, contact your doctor and let them know you are interested in what Florence Pharmacy has to offer.
